Sunday at mass a question was raised about the “pink Sunday” during Lent. I asked Fr. Steven about it and he explained a little bit about the Sunday. “Laetare Sunday” was actually this past Sunday, March 2nd. “Laetare” comes from the Latin word “rejoice.” It accentuates and often-missed aspect of Lent, which is that it is supposed to be a joyful time. Penitential, yes, but returning to God is an occasion for joy. In actuality the color of the day is rose not pink, but the priest is allowed to wear the Lenten purple on this Sunday which Fr. Steven did.
